Hussey & Co for Australia's Finest Salad Mixes

‘Pioneers and innovators of Salad Mix since 1975' is the claim made by Hussey & Co and it is a very accurate claim. Hussey & Co. have been growing salad mixes for 31 years on the Mornington Peninsular which is just to the South East of Melbourne, Victoria's capital city. They are far enough out of the city to be in a pristine environment that is eminently suited to growing baby leaf salad mixes. The climate is temperate and has a lot of good pure rain.

Hussy & Co. pride themselves at being constant innovators always developing new and exciting products. They certainly have an amazing range of some 30 different salad mixes. From Asian mix to Chinios (a mix of Red Chard, Pea Tendrils, Tatsoi, and Lupins), Mesclun to Winter Mix (a mix of Black Cabbage, Baby Cos, Radicchio, Frillice, Pea Tendrils, Lupins and Frizze). With all these varieties what more could a chef or home cook wish for?

Specialty Lines

Redgum also has many specialty lines including Microgreens and Potted Baby Herbs that are wonderful for chefs. Imagine decorating your dish with a special garnish picked from the pot in the kitchen window.

Microgreens are many of the same leafy greens as are used for salad mixes but grown in small pots and are sold to customers when they are smaller and thus only harvested once. They are eaten as thin, delicate plants, the smallest possible variation on salad greens and herbs. They provide texture and colour when used as garnish, or exciting flavours when used as part of a salad mixes. Think of microgreens as a cross between a salad mix and sprouts. Sprouts belong in the province of the kitchen and are not really part of the gardener's domain. While sprouts are well known for their health benefits they are not famous for their flavour whereas microgreens are both healthy and a taste sensation. Microgreens are usually harvested when there are four or more leaves.

Redgum's newest range of fresh produce is Gourmet Sprouts. Sprouts are delicious and nutritious as well as a perfect addition to your salads. The range includes everything from radish sprouts to broccoli sprouts as well as a special 'crunchy combo.'
