Food and Hotel Asia is coming again! Gosh, it feels like you blink and two years has gone. Who’s running off with my life?
So Red Gum is out at Singapore Expo from 8th to 11th April, and everyone who is anyone (darling) in the food industry will be there. Food and Hotel Asia (commonly known as FHA because we love our acronyms) is one of the biggest food shows in the world, and definitely the biggest and best in South East Asia if not all of Asia. Chefs, suppliers, producers come literally from all over the world to showcase their products, expertise, and equipment. FHA is so much fun because if it has anything to do with food or hospitality, this is where you’ll find it. It’s also a brilliant chance to catch up with hospitality people as so many come in for the show. It’s a very busy and social time!
One of the highlights is a huge cooking competition where teams come from all over the world to compete. More than one thousand chefs will converge on our lovely island to compete in individual and team events, including cook-offs to win the coveted Battle for the Lion trophy. Even if you’re not a chef, it is worth your time to go and see what these teams create. You might even still be able to buy tickets for some of the lunches, where you can taste the end products. There is everything from wondrous ice carvings; draw dropping deserts, cakes, and confectionaries; to mouth-watering hot and cold dishes. I’ve always loved the black box competition (that’s the Battle of the Lion) where competitors open a mystery basket and use the ingredients inside. I always imagine that must be such a stomach-churning moment – hoping you know what all the ingredients are let alone how best to cook and present them! Nowadays with the world getting smaller, you’re as likely to have burrata as lemon myrtle oil.
So going from food to things that help you make, serve, or store food we hit the machinery section. There seems like there is every kind of machine known to food consuming humanity. Whether it is for cooking, preserving, packing, display, they have it all. You will find halls and halls of equipment from dishwashers to heat lamps. All I can is that if you’re planning to walk the halls you need time and decent shoes. Oh, and a map!
Where are we in all this? Red Gum is having its most comprehensive stand yet – 9F2-06. If you’re visiting the show, you must come by and say hello! You can see many of the products we carry as well as those we produce ourselves. Samples for tasting, and our very knowledgeable and personable staff, including Roland and myself, will be on hand to answer your questions. We have proudly chosen to be in the Singapore stand this year. Our company has expanded its range and outlook both in the products we present, and in our philosophy. This is why our revamped logo has the tagline “Finest Foods Since 1989.” We’re so proud of what we have achieved and believe you me, it isn’t going to stop here. Our plans are in motion. Watch this space!
